Wild Thing! You make my heart sing!
Modified/Supported Wild Thing |
Wild thing, You make my heart sing, You make everything
groovy.
Groovy is such a groovy word, don’t you think? And I think
that the Wild Thing Asana will make your heart sing! For reals yo!
Camatkarasana (Wild Thing) is our Pose of the Month!!!!!
What exactly is this “Wild Thing?” Well, it’s like a combo
of Side Plank and Upward Facing Bow. Sound Scary? It shouldn’t! Heck, even trying
to pronounce the Sanskrit word, Camatkarasana, is fun! Sounds Groovy, doesn’t
it? Just wait, it gets better! The meaning is even more rad, “Ecstatic
Unfolding of the Enraptured Heart,” doesn’t that make you want to sing?
Wild Thing/ Camatkarasana is a hip opener meets balance
meets spinal twist meets back bend! ALL THE THINGS!
This Asana is a combination of a few types of poses: Part
Backbend, Part Hip opener and Part Balance. While this Advanced pose, in its
full expression, may appear daunting; we will be focusing on a modified version
of this pose; one in which the Shoulder girdle and Spine is protected and safe!
Don’t just try this at home. There are many components to practicing this Asana Safely. You will need a solid core, lift in your hips, an engaged shoulder, and lengthened spine. Come to class all month so that we can explore
this pose together to find the proper and safe way to do the Wild Thing.
